Getting ready for...PINK!

We are having a girl! We will name her Kate Jillian (the Jillian part being after her aunt B). So, since we are having a girl, here are a few things I have been looking at.

Family Addition

So last night we just happened to stop by Petsmart to see the kitties and there was the cutest little 2 month old black kitten there. I know the hubbs was amused by the pitiful looks on the face of the mommy and the boy. But he wasn't sure about us adopting this little kitty until we knew how he would get along with our 1 1/2 year old orange tabby who is affectionately named Tiger/Carl/Milo, but answers to "Kitty". So the hubbs went home and got the big kitty and brought him back to Petsmart on a leash with a collar. Yes, we got a few stares. I mean, there are dogs in there all the time, but how many people bring their cats in? And on a leash? (In our defense we didn't want the cat to get loose since he's a house cat and only gets out to go to the vet). I realized that we had become....the cat people. And then I laughed out loud, cause, well, it was funny. So, we soon discovered that big kitty wouldn't try to torment little kitty too much and, much to...

Big girl panties, Rookie Cops, and Jesus

This is a random post, so bear with me. Had a good night at work last night and go back tonight. I didn't realize how much I missed being a nurse, but I am loving every minute of it and the people I work with are fabulous! I get to start picking up some shifts in the ER and ICU soon. Oh yes, I am very excited about this. So next week brings a class to refresh myself on reading the heart rhythm strips. Being out of the field for a few years, I am having to relearn a few things, but that's ok. I like a challenge (most days)! Coming in late last night, the family was asleep and I spent some quality time with the TV and a sundrop. I discovered a delightful little show called "Blush". I guess it's like the Project Runway of the make-up world. Oh, it was delightful. Then I watched two episodes of Rookies on A & E. I love that show! Kind of interesting line-up, huh? My current read, "When God Whispers Your Name" by Max Lucado is so speaking to ...

Random thoughts of the day

Yesterday was fun. Went to the Native American Heritage Festival with the boy and the hubbs. The boy was enamored at the "Indians" and their tools. He especially liked when the Indian chief started fire with just a couple of sticks. He even liked the dancing! This is one of the coolest parts about homeschooling - being able to just pick up and go to an event whenever and wherever you want. Today, I will hopefully be very productive at getting some projects done. I am working on a dress for my niece that I hope to have done in time for Christmas. It's not a Christmas dress, but it's pattern is similar to this one. I have encountered problem after problem but I will persevere! First it was something about the lining that I couldn't get quite the way that I want it, and today the sewing machine is giving me fits. May have to break down and hand sew it. Also been working on some hair bows. I made a few back when my niece was first born and now I am working ...

Pictures

Here is a picture of the boy cheesin' with his brand-new glasses. Oh, yeah, and that's my poor foot in a cast.

Veteran's Day, Hurt Foot, and Ethiopia

Yesterday was Veteran's Day. We give thanks to all of our men and women who are now and who have in the past stood up for our freedoms. I can't even begin to imagine, but I am thankful. I know most businesses don't close on this day, but my hubbs gets off. We enjoyed a nice day together. Well....at least until lunchtime. The hubbs went to pick us up some BBQ for lunch and the boy and I decided to rake the millions of leaves that are piling up in our yard. We were just raking away until I stepped into a hole in the yard with my right foot and turned it sideways. It's important that you know that I did the same thing to this same foot almost 6 months ago and it's still very weak. The pain this time was way worse than before, and I honestly thought that I had torn the ligaments or tendons or something because it hurt so bad. First, I almost passed out and then I almost threw up. And then, crying like a baby, I had to try to help my 6-year old help me. Luckily...

Life...in general...is tiring sometimes.

So, it's been awhile since I posted. There's a very good reason for that. Life!!! I am so tired. Monday, I was supposed to go to work at a local hospital here. I'm going to be working some part-time shifts as a nurse on the medical floor and in the ICU and ER. Monday was to be my first night to orient to the new facility (get to know where everything is and the policies and procedures and all that jazz). However, Monday I had to make a 2 hour trip to get a family member some help. I was called and asked if I would come take this person to an emergency room up where she lives and help her get some psychiatric treatment. She was depressed and somewhat suicidal. We spent the night (well until 2am) in the emergency room for part of the time and then in a lock-down facility for the rest of the time as they tried to assess her and decide what treatment she needs. She was seeking inpatient treatment but that wasn't available to her and they didn't think she was ...

A little of this and a little of that

The weekend for us was great! We were back at Crosspoint this week and even got to meet some new faces. Tonight we are going to the Group Link event. This is a place for us to connect with a small group (called Life Groups). We are excited about continuing to meet new people and slowly (as slow at Jesus will let us!) get involved. We know we need to rest for awhile, but we also feel God's leading. We are praying and listening and trusting daily and we know God will lead us to something good and I also believe there will be some amazing adventures along the way! Yesterday we went to the park and then to lunch with some dear friends of ours. We had a blast! We are still learning to deal with the boy's diabetes when we go out to things like that, but I think yesterday was a pretty "normal" day. We didn't make a big deal of the diabetes when it came meal time and we even broke down and let him have a small part of an iced cupcake. All the other kids ran up ...
