Jonas Brothers and Diabetes

Last night we took Big Red to the Jonas Brothers concert. We have been waiting several months for this. Matthew loves the Jonas Brothers. Nick is his hero, as Nick has Type 1 diabetes just like our boy. So amid all the screaming tween girls, is my boy. Waiting to see his hero. He'd even been practicing singing the songs for about two weeks.

At some point during the concert Nick comes out on stage with just a white piano. He begins to play and sing his song "A Little Bit Longer', which he wrote the day he found out he had diabetes. He told the crowd that diabetes had changed his life. He thought he was going to die. He was scared. But then he told those who had diabetes, to "never let diabetes slow you down". He talked for about 10 minutes and it was very inspiring. I watched my brave boy, my hero, out of the corner of my eye and he was listening ever so intently. I was trying not to let my tears turn into a sob, and I'm pretty sure I saw the hubbs wiping away the tears.

One year after Matthew's diagnosis with diabetes, our hard fought year had come full circle. At the Jonas Brothers concert. It was awesome. I was so thankful that God had worked all the details to make it so we could go and that Nick would be so vocal about his diabetes. I think it was meant just for my boy.

It wasn't long after that speech, that Matthew became very lethargic and Cole and I were very worried about him. We checked his blood sugar and it was just shy of 500! No wonder he felt so tired. We managed to get it down. I couldn't help remembering what Nick said about "never letting the diabetes slow you down". Diabetes doesn't take a break - even at the Jonas Brothers concert.

So today, we are tired and dragging. But it was worth the awesome experience of last night!

I am so glad that you guys were able to go last night. The pictures are great! I really love the one that shows the wonder in his eyes! He is an amazing blessing to me and I shed some tears reading this one and many others you write. God has so blessed me with my family! I know Matthew is your hero and he is one of mine also but I don't want you and Cole to forget the great job you have done with him. You guys are heroes in my eyes, too! I love you all!
