Happy Birthday Red on the Head!

Matthew,
Today is your 7th birthday. I've been meaning to write these down every year. I guess better late than never. Here are a few things about you at age 7 and the past year.

~This year you were diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. It has been the hardest struggle of our life. And you have triumphed through it. You are so brave and strong.

~This year you were home schooled due to the diabetes. The hardest thing you and I have probably done. But I have so enjoyed our time together and will miss you dearly when you go back to school in the fall.

~You love anything Star Wars. You are currently "writing" the 7th episode. You've even made clay models of the new characters in your "movie".

~You are very into history and love learning about the Civil War. Your great-grandfather passed away this year and gave you some of his medals from World War II. They are a few of your greatest treasures.

~You are very good at math, just like your daddy. You still need a little work on your handwriting, just like your mommy.

~You adore your daddy. He is the most amazing man I know. I hope you grow up to be just like him. I thank God everyday for him, and I am happiest thinking of how you adore him so.

~You love playing instruments and have a beautiful singing voice.

~Your favorite food is still chicken fingers, but you have branched out this year and tried hamburgers, sweet potatoes, and steak and found that you like those too.

~You are excited to be a big brother this year. You will be an amazing big brother!

Son, you will never know how loved you are by your mommy and daddy. Perhaps when you hold your own son or daughter, you will get a glimpse. And to think that our love for you pales in comparison to the amazing love our precious Jesus has for you.

Our prayer for you is that you continue to triumph over your diabetes. May it make you stronger and be used to glorify God. May you grow to love Jesus with everything you've got. May you be bold for Him. May you serve others and be tender. May you be a mighty man of God. May you always know you are loved!

Love,
Mommy

Oh my....I can hardly catch my breath after reading this. This is a precious and beautiful love letter to your son. He is a hero to us all and God is using him to touch lives for His glory.

p.s. In reading this letter, it came to me that this could be an idea for your book.
